Cookies Policy

As things stand this site sets no cookies — not for analytics, not for advertising, not for preferences — and there is no consent banner because there is nothing yet to consent to. What has changed is how solid that promise is: a tag manager is now installed, and it can load a tracker without anyone editing this site. Read on, then check your own browser.

How to check that yourself

Do not take our word for it. Open your browser's developer tools on any page here, look under Application or Storage, and read the cookie list. It is empty. The same tab's network view will show you every request the page makes, which is the same claim in a different form: the site loads almost nothing from anyone else.

The tag manager

The site loads Google Tag Manager (container GTM-WB84DBZP). Its own script sets no cookie and measures nothing; it is a loader, and the cookies you get depend entirely on what has been put inside it. Today it is empty, which is why the answer above is still "none".

Be appropriately sceptical of that list. Tags are added from a Google dashboard, not from this site's code, so the usual guarantee on this site — that the page history is the record of what changed — does not fully hold here. We keep the list current by hand. Your network tab keeps it honest.

Why there are none

A cookie is for remembering something between requests. This site has nothing to remember: there are no accounts, no sign-in, no saved preferences, no basket, and no advertising to target. That is why the tag manager above is empty rather than full: the container exists so a measurement tag can be added deliberately, not because anything here needs to track you.

The calculator is the one place a site like this would normally reach for storage, and it does not. What you type stays in the page while you are on it; the arithmetic runs on your own device. Reload and it is gone — a small inconvenience we prefer to the alternative.

Measurement without cookies

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without setting a cookie and without fingerprinting your browser as a substitute for one. It cannot follow you between sites and does not build a profile. What it records is listed on the privacy policy. This is the measurement the site actually runs on; the tag manager described above is a separate thing, and an empty one.

Cookies we do not set, but should mention

The site is served through Cloudflare. Cloudflare's security layer can, on some configurations, set a strictly necessary cookie of its own to tell automated traffic from people — commonly named __cf_bm. It is not ours, it carries no advertising or analytics purpose, and it is not used to identify you to us. If you find one on this site, that is where it came from.

We would rather point at this than claim a perfect zero we do not control. The claim we can stand behind is the one above: the site itself sets nothing.

What would change this page

Advertising
An advertising network sets its own cookies and reads which pages you visit here. If this site ever carries ads, that is a real change to everything above: the network would be named on this page and on the privacy policy, in the same release that introduced it, and a consent banner would follow because one would then be required.
Affiliate links
A link that pays us hands you to another company, which will typically set a cookie to record that we sent you. If we ever add one, the link will say so where it appears, and this page will name the arrangement. It would not change a number: the engine takes its inputs from published data, and a figure will never be adjusted because one outcome pays better.

Neither is in place today. This page is versioned with the site, so its history is the record of what changed and when — and if a change ever slipped through unannounced, it would belong in the corrections log like any other error.

Controlling cookies anyway

Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies for any site, and blocking everything for this one will not break anything here — there is nothing to break. If you would also like to block the analytics beacon, any content blocker will do it, and the site works exactly the same without it.
