Privacy Policy
This site has no accounts, no sign-up, no comments and no payments, and nothing you type into the calculator ever leaves your browser. Two things here are loaded from Google or Cloudflare rather than from us: a traffic counter that sets no cookie, and a tag manager, which is a loader for whatever we choose to put in it. It currently loads nothing at all. The only thing you can send us is a message, and only if you choose to.
Last updated 13 October 2026. Questions: hello@straightwatt.com. Cookies have their own short page: cookies policy, and how the site may be used is in the terms of use.
What is recorded
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without identifying anyone. It sets no cookie, does not fingerprint your browser or device, and does not follow you to other sites. What it records is limited to:
- the page you looked at, and the page or search that sent you;
- your browser, operating system and whether you are on a phone or a computer;
- your country, derived from your network address — the address itself is not stored;
- how quickly the page loaded.
That is aggregate traffic measurement. It is not a profile, it cannot be tied to you, and nothing in it is sold or shared. We use it for one thing: to know which pages are read and whether people reach the calculator.
The tag manager, and why it is listed separately
The site loads Google Tag Manager (container GTM-WB84DBZP). It is worth being precise about what that is, because it is not a measurement tool: it is a loader. Its own script collects nothing and sets no cookie. What it does is fetch whatever tags we have placed in it, and those tags can collect and can set cookies.
Today the container is empty. It loads nothing else, so in practice the only thing it does is make a request to Google, which means Google receives your network address, your browser and the page you are on — the same thing any third-party script would.
Here is the part most privacy policies leave out. A tag manager can be changed from a dashboard, without touching this site's code. Everywhere else on this site we say that the page history is the record of what changed, and for the tag manager that is no longer entirely true: we could add a tracker tomorrow without a commit. We maintain the list above by hand and intend to keep it current, but you should treat it as a statement of intent, not as proof.
The proof is in your own browser. Open the developer tools on any page here, look at the network tab, and you will see every request this page actually makes. That check outranks anything written on this page, which is why we keep telling you to run it.
Cookies and browser storage
As things stand nothing on this site sets a cookie, and nothing is written to local storage. There is no consent banner because, today, there is nothing to consent to. Note the change in what that sentence rests on: it used to be a fact about this site's code, and since the tag manager arrived it is partly a fact about a dashboard setting. The full answer, including the one cookie Cloudflare's security layer can set on some configurations and how to check any of this yourself, is on the cookies policy.
The calculator
Your bill, your state and every slider stay in your browser. The calculation runs on your own device, in the same code that produced the numbers on the pre-rendered pages; nothing you enter is sent anywhere, logged, or stored. Closing the tab discards it.
If you write to us
The contact form posts to this site's own domain — not to a form service, an inbox provider's widget, or any other third party. What you type reaches us as an email and nothing else happens to it:
- What we get: your message, your email address so we can reply, your name if you gave one, and the page you named if you named one.
- What we do with it: answer you. Usually that means checking a figure you think is wrong, which is the mail we most want.
- What we do not do: add you to a list — there is no list — profile you, or pass your details to an installer, a lead broker, or anyone else. We do not sell solar and we do not sell contacts.
- How long we keep it: as long as it takes to deal with, and afterwards only where a correction needs a record of who reported it and when.
The form has no captcha, because a captcha means a third party watching you fill in a form. It uses a hidden field that people never see and automated senders usually fill in — cheaper, and it costs you nothing. Emailing hello@straightwatt.com directly works exactly as well, and the form is never the only way through.
Third parties
Other than the traffic counter and the tag manager described above, this site loads nothing from anyone else: no fonts, no images, no embedded video, no advertising, no social widgets, no form service. Pages use the fonts already on your computer. You can check this in your browser's network tab, which is the only claim on this page worth trusting.
Pages link out to sources — a state commission, a utility tariff, a statute. Following one takes you to that organisation's site, where their rules apply, not ours.
Hosting
The site is static files served over Cloudflare, and the contact form runs as a small function on the same platform. Like any web server, it processes network requests in order to send a page back; Cloudflare keeps short-lived operational logs for security and abuse prevention, which we do not use for analytics and cannot use to identify a reader. When a message is sent, it passes through a mail provider to reach our inbox, in the same way any email does.
What would change this page
Two things are likely, and both would appear here before they appeared on the site:
- Advertising
- If the site carries ads, the ad network becomes a third party that can set its own cookies and see which pages you visit here. That is a real change to everything above, so it would be written on this page, and the network named, in the same release that introduced it.
- Affiliate links
- If a link to an installer or a quote service ever pays us, two things follow. The link will say so where it appears, not only here. And clicking it hands you to that company, which will typically set a cookie to record that we sent you. We will not let any such arrangement change a number: the engine takes its inputs from published data, and a figure will never be adjusted because one outcome pays better than another. If that is ever untrue, the corrections log is where it will be admitted.
Neither is in place today. This page is versioned with the site, so its history is the record of what changed and when.
Your rights
Unless you have written to us, we hold no personal data about you at all, so there is nothing to request a copy of, correct, or have deleted. If you have written to us and want that message deleted, say so at hello@straightwatt.com and we will delete it and tell you it is done.
